The Société des Automobiles Alpine SAS is also commonly known as Alpine. It is a French manufacturer of racing and sports cars, founded in 1955.
Jean Rédélé, the founder of Alpine, began his career as a Dieppe garage owner and quickly rose to prominence in motorsport with the Renault 4CV, one of the few post-World War II French automobiles. Throughout its existence, the company has been intimately associated with Renault, who purchased it in 1973.
Alpine’s competitive division merged with Renault Sport in 1976, and Alpine-badged cars were discontinued in 1995. With the debut of the new Alpine A110 in 2017, the Alpine brand was rebranded. Renault stated in January 2021 that Renault Sport would be merged back into Alpine to form an Alpine business unit as part of a company overhaul.
