About Aston Martin

Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford formed Aston Martin in 1913. The two had teamed up the previous year as Bamford & Martin to sell Singer cars from Callow Street in London, where they also repaired GWK and Calthorpe vehicles. Martin used to race specials at Aston Hill, near Aston Clinton, and the two decided to build their own cars.

Martin built the first Aston Martin by grafting a four-cylinder Coventry-Simplex engine onto the chassis of a 1908 Isotta Fraschini.

In March 1915, they moved into Henniker Mews in Kensington and created their first automobile. Because of the outbreak of the First World War, when Martin joined the Admiralty and Bamford joined the Army Service Corps, production could not begin.
