How To Change Oil Filter and Engine Oil on a Mercedes-Benz E-Class W211

Here’s the tools you will need to successfully change the oil filter and engine oil on your Mercedes-Benz E-Class W211. I’ve provided you with Amazon links to each product, should you need any of them to complete your oil change.

Oil Filter and Engine Oil Replacement for Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon (W211)

Step 1: Open the hood.

Step 2: Use a fender protection cover to prevent damage to the paintwork and plastic parts of the car.

Step 3: Unscrew the engine cover fastener using a Torx T25 and a ratchet wrench.

Step 4: Unscrew the fasteners of the back section of the engine cover using a drive socket #10 and a ratchet wrench.

Step 5: Carefully remove the back section of the engine cover.

Step 6: Remove the engine cover by raising it from both sides simultaneously. Avoid using excessive force.

Step 7: Unscrew the oil filler plug.

Step 8: Elevate the car using a jack or place it over an inspection pit. Ensure the car is level or slightly tilted to position the drain plug at the lowest point. The engine should be cooled.

Step 9: Undo the fasteners of the oil pan lower cover using a drive socket #10 and a ratchet wrench.

Step 10: Remove the oil pan cover.

Step 11: Position a waste oil container (with at least a 7-liter capacity) under the drainage hole.

Step 12: Clean the area around the oil pan drainage hole using a wire brush and all-purpose cleaning spray.

Step 13: Unscrew the drain plug using a combination spanner #13 or a drive socket #16 with a ratchet wrench.

Step 14: Allow the used oil to drain completely.

Step 25: Lubricate the rubber seal of the new filter with some fresh oil.

Step 26: Remove the microfiber towel.

Step 27: Install the new oil filter housing cover and tighten it using the 76/15F socket. Use a torque wrench to tighten it to 25 Nm.

Step 28: Reattach the brackets for the vacuum hose and hydraulic power steering hose using a drive socket #E12.

Step 29: Clean the oil pan drainage hole area again.

Step 30: Install the new drainage plug and tighten it to 30 Nm using a drive socket #16.

Step 31: Clean the area around the oil pan drainage hole again.

Step 32: Reinstall the oil pan lower cover.

Step 33: Tighten the fasteners of the oil pan lower cover using a drive socket #10.

Step 34: Lower the car.

Step 35: Remove the oil filler cap.

Step 36: Insert a funnel.

Step 37: Pour 6.5 L of the recommended engine oil into the funnel.

Step 38: Switch on the ignition.

Step 39: Check the oil level using the on-board computer and add more if necessary.

Step 40: Reinstall the oil filler cap.

Step 41: Ensure the oil filler cap is tightened securely.

Step 42: Run the engine for a few minutes until the oil pressure warning light turns off.

Step 43: Switch off the ignition. Check the drainage hole and oil filter seal for any leaks and tighten if necessary.

Step 44: Reattach the engine cover.

Step 45: Secure the engine cover using the Torx T25 fasteners.
